Sunday Morning Keiko is proud to host the fifth annual Florida Winter Keiko! We welcome practitioners from all styles to join us in a celebration of our keiko and a weekend filled with fellowship and goodwill. This year’s training will be located at the Sarasota Budokan dojo, (the newly renovated incarnation of the 12th Street Dojo). The sendoff morning training and barbecue will again be located on the sands of South Lido Beach as in prior years.
Returning for 2020 are internationally recognized instructors (Scott Langley and Rick Hotton) to provoke us toward deeper questioning and understanding of traditional karate-do. It is our continued wish that this event will inspire a sense of community regardless of association and set a joyful and positive tone for your practice in 2020! Welcome to the Florida Winter Keiko!
Scott Langley, 6th Dan, is the Chief Technical Director for the HDKI. He lived in Japan for 5 years and is now resident in Dublin, Ireland. A graduate of the famous instructors’ course in Japan, Scott has been a successful competitor with National, European and World championship titles to his name. He is a best- selling author with titles including “Karate Stupid” and “Karate Clever,” as well as being in great demand as an instructor throughout the world.
Rick Hotton sensei (5th Dan), is a 48 year veteran of karate do and has been the Chief Instructor of West Wind Karate Dojo for the past 40 years. An innovative instructor, Hotton sensei combines a mixture of classical training infused with Aiki principle to form a unique approach to Karate practice.
Hotton sensei’s teaching and approach can be view on his popular youtube channel; "Shotokan Karate", which has gained a worldwide following. He is the Founder of Sunday Morning Keiko.
The Cost to attend all seminar sessions is $150 for Sunday Morning Keiko members, $200 for non members. For more on Sunday Morning Keiko Membership and to join, please go here.
Sunday barbecue is included with cost of seminar registration. Florida Winter Keiko T-shirts and sweatshirts are available for sale at the event as supplies last, reservation of specific sizes and quantities are available during registration. The one day cost for the Sunday Morning training session and barbecue only is $60 if not registered for the entire seminar.
Sarasota Bradenton Airport (SRQ) and Tampa International (TPA) are both options, though Tampa is about an hour’s drive from Sarasota. However, flights into Tampa tend to be less expensive. Ground transportation is likely best acquired through rental car, carpooling, or Lyft. Taxi services are not cost effective and the public transportation system is not ideal for reaching the dojo or beach.
